The webtoon My Blood-Curdling Campus Life follows Seonha Shin, a young woman who feels she’s lived her life in her sister’s shadow. She wants to find one thing she’s better at than her sister, so she decides to become a blood donor. She gets admitted to a prestigious school through a special admission as a blood donor. The problem? She doesn’t realize, until it’s too late, that her classmates are vampires.

I really enjoyed reading this webtoon. Although Webtoon.com lists it as a drama, I felt like the genre was more comedy. There are some dramatic and serious aspects to the story. However, most of the time, the series felt very lighthearted and funny.

There are some serious parts to the story. Seonha feels inferior to her older sister, who is one year older than her. The college dean admits Seonha as a blood donor because he created a department where humans and vampires can live together harmoniously rather than in constant war.

However, the comedy really stands out. It’s a pretty funny webtoon. I couldn’t stop myself from laughing out loud many times while I read this series. Even the more serious moments get wrapped up pretty quickly. They don’t feel like they have a lot of weight to them.

In some ways, that could be a negative aspect if you want a serious and dramatic webtoon to read. But I personally really enjoyed the refreshing lightheartedness of it. I read to enjoy, not to feel stressed. So, I liked how the series didn’t overdo it on the drama or add any unnecessary angst.

The webtoon isn’t very long. The series is a total of 45 episodes, so it’s easy to read through it fairly quickly. It also doesn’t add extra drama where it’s not needed. There aren’t a ton of unnecessary tropes and cliques that sometimes bog down school/college webtoons.

The shortness, however, did make it feel like the main climax of the series, and the main problems the characters were facing, wrapped up a little too quickly. There were a few reveals that, as soon as they were hinted at, were basically resolved within the next episode or two.

You could argue the series was a bit rushed towards the end. I personally found it part of the hilarity aspect of the story. I genuinely think My Blood-Curdling Campus Life is made to be a comedic, fun series and not to be taken too seriously.

The artwork style is fairly typical for a webtoon. I can’t say it’s anything super special, but it’s still good. I like it. There are some really funny images that add to the hilarity of the story. And I enjoyed that Seonha wears different outfits throughout the series. I also like the character designs, especially the vampires, like the two male leads and the girl vampire with pink hair.

All the characters are likeable. Seonha is funny and relatable. Her two male vampire friends, Bareun Oh and Geon Si, each have their own unique personalities that make you like them. And although Geon Si’s introduction and first couple appearances make him a little rough around the edges, I promise you there’s more to him than first appears.

There is also some romance to this story, but it’s fairly light. I had been hoping for a bit more of it when I first picked the series to read. Though, I’ll be honest, since both romantic options are so likable, I did enjoy that the romance wasn’t necessarily the only focus.

I think the best part of My Blood-Curdling Campus Life is the comedy. It’s an extremely funny series. If you’re looking for something fun to read, then I highly recommend it. And since I’m writing this review in October, I also suggest that it’s perfectly fitting to read for Halloween as well, given the topic of vampires.

However, don’t expect anything too serious. Don’t read it if you want a ton of angst and drama. It’s a short series. It won’t take long to read through, but that does make the climax of the story and some of the more serious parts wrap up really quickly. Still, it’s such a funny webtoon, and I enjoyed reading it.
