Suicide Squad Isekai is an anime where Amanda Waller forces Harley Quinn, Clayface, Deadshot, Peacemaker, and King Shark to enter a fantasy world. Their mission is to help a kingdom defeat mythical monsters and other DC villains to spark peaceful relations with the kingdom to gain their resources. But if they fail or aren’t close enough to a signal when it goes off, a bomb Amanda planted into their necks will go off.

I think this is a really niche idea, so I don’t really know why DC decided to make this anime, but I honestly really enjoyed it. I was already interested in the concept when DC first announced it, and I did like watching it.

Honestly, I’m surprised that the Suicide Squad Isekai has so many mixed reviews because I think it was pretty good. It’s not perfect, and there are a few things that could have been done better, but it’s a fun watch.

First of all, I love that it’s anime. The art and animation look good, and I really like the way they designed all the characters. I especially like Harley Quinn’s look, as she’s one of my favorite DC characters. I think it’s one of the best newer looks of her.

Each character has their own personality, and even though they are villains in the DC world, they are still likable. I personally think this is one of the best portrayals of Harley Quinn we’ve had in a while. She just felt like a decent mix of the modern version of her and the original. She was fun again, and a lot of her actions in this anime felt like her.

The Suicide Squad Isekai doesn’t have an exceptionally detailed, in-depth, and unique story to it. It’s not really profound or makes you think. But I don’t think that’s what it’s supposed to do. I think it was made to be fun. I think they wanted to make a ridiculous anime that capitalized on and poked fun at the isekai trend. Clayface himself even knows it’s an isekai.

It’s funny, and you have a good time watching it. It’s made to be entertaining, and that’s what it does. However, I will say that the first episode is a little rough. It jumps around too much. I just think they tried to add so much exposition and setup into the first episode that it makes it kind of jarring.

My biggest complaint is that the series should be longer. It’s only 10 episodes, and it needed, and I really mean needed, to at least be 12 episodes. A full 24-episode anime series would have been even better. 24 episodes would have allowed them more time to add detail.

With that amount of episodes, they would have been able to write a better beginning. It also would have given more time to expand on the world and the people in it. I saw that one of the biggest complaints in other people’s reviews was the lack of detail on the fantasy world and its people.

The focus is obviously supposed to be the DC characters, but I do think adding more detail to the world would have made the anime better. It did seem like they were trying to give some attention to certain characters from the other world, like the princess, but I think the shortened time to get everything in limited that.

The same can be said about the ending. They had a very big reveal at the end, but it felt almost too rushed to the point where it was odd and confusing. It’s an interesting and exciting twist, but for the twist to really work, they need a second season to explore it. Otherwise, the twist and reveal seem a bit wasted and underutilized.

Suicide Squad Isekai is by no means a perfect anime or show, but it’s fun. It’s made to be ridiculous and out there, and that’s what makes it interesting and entertaining. Don’t take any of it seriously, and you’ll enjoy it.

It is lacking in world-building. They could have better utilized the world more, but I think that’s just because it’s too short. More episodes would have given the writers more time to flesh out the details and add to the story. Still, if you just want to turn your brain off and have fun, definitely give this anime a shot, especially if you like DC comics and isekai. I liked it, and I hope to see more of it in the future.
